Kolkata, August 7: Mohammedan SC won their final group fixture in the ongoing 134th edition of the Durand Cup with a 3-0 victory over BSF FT at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan. Three first-half goals sealed the much-awaited win for the Black and White Army in the evening. Both teams had no chance to progress to the knockout stage and played their final match of the tournament.
Mohammedan SC began the match with an attacking mindset, creating multiple threatening opportunities in the opening half. The breakthrough came early, at 4th minute when Lalthankima was brought down by Agou Lenthang inside the box, and awared them a penalty, Sajal Bag calmly converted the penalty to give Mohammedan SC a 1-0 lead.

Later, at 18th minute, BSF FT from a corner created a scoring chance, from the right delivered a cross towards the far post. Sanjog Jha headed the ball down, which Navjoh Singh then sent it into the net, but the goal was cancelled as it was ruled that the ball had touched his hand.
Mohammedan SC doubled their lead through a sequence of quick attacking play in the 21st minute. Yash Chhetri sent a ball left inside the box, which Lalthankima held, turned, and shot on target. The BSF goalkeeper saved it with his left leg, but the rebound fell to Maxion inside the centre of the box, who finished it to make it 2–0 for Mohammedan SC.

The first half ended on a high for the Black Panthers, as a long ranger stunner from Maxion changed the scoreline to 3–0 for Mohammedan, giving them a solid advantage going into the break.

Mohammedan SC continued to maintain attacking control in the second half, constantly putting pressure on the BSF FT backline. Just after the restart, in the 46th minute, Lalngaihsaka made a quick run and from the left entered the box. He unleashed a grounded shot towards the near post, but it closely missed and went just wide.
In the 64th minute, Maxion picked out Sajal Bag with a clever pass. Sajal dribbled into the box from the right side, cut past two BSF defenders, and took a shot from a tight angle near the first post. However, the BSF goalkeeper reacted quickly, closed the angle smartly, and made a crucial interception to clear the danger.
Three minutes later, in the 69th minute, BSF FT launched an attack, Harmandeep Singh attempted a powerful long-range effort from the right side, aiming for the far post. Unfortunately, his shot missed the target and went wide.
Despite these promising attacking attempts, the second half didn’t produce any additional goals, and the match ended with Mohammedan SC sealing a convincing 3–0 win over BSF FT.
Mohammedan Sporting Club wrapped up their Group B fixtures in style, registering their first win of the season with a dominant 3–0 victory over BSF FT. Mohammedan SC registered 15 total shots, with 9 of them on target, compared to BSF FT’s 9 attempts and only 1 shot on goal. The 69% ball possession visualised their dominance, while they also earned 10 corners, double that of their opponents. With this result, both teams concluded their Group B fixtures.
Mohammedan SC, the first club from independent India to win the Durand Cup, is a team with a rich heritage and culture. However, the club has been struggling for a long time. Before the match began, Mohammedan SC fans held a protest, expressing their concern about the current situation of the Kolkata giants.
The supporters raised their voices against internal conflicts, lack of sponsorship, and the club’s ongoing financial instability. They demanded the resignation of club officials and appealed to the Chief Minister of West Bengal and the Sports Minister to step in and support the club during this difficult period.

Despite the off-field issues, the fans found some relief as Mohammedan SC secured their first win of the season in the evening, breaking a long winless streak.
