Kalighat SL Stuns Mohun Bagan SG with 2-1 Victory, Mariners Miss Out on Super Six Qualification in CFL 2024

Mohun Bagan Super Giant ended their today’s Calcutta Football League 2024 match with a defeat. Today, at the Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay Stadium, Barackpore Kalighat Sports Lovers Association beat Mohun Bagan SG with a 2-1 score.

From Group B, Bhawanipore SC, Emami East Bengal FC, and Calcutta Customs qualified for the Super Six. One more match is left for the Mariners, which got rescheduled, and it is against Police AC, Mohun Bagan SG couldn’t advance to the Super Six as they stand in the middle of the group table. It wasn’t the expected favorable Calcutta Football League season for the Mariners, as today. They are very close to end their league journey.

In today’s match, during the first half, Kalighat SL scored their first goal and took the lead. In the 35th minute, they got a set piece on the left flank just outside the eighteen-yard box. Aboy Singh took the set piece and delivered an inch-perfect cross inside the box. Khanngam Horam headed the ball and scored a goal for his team, Kalighat SL.

In the second half, in the 52nd minute, Mohun Bagan SG got their equalizer from a penalty. Engson Singh was fouled inside the box, resulting in a penalty. Adil Abdulla took the penalty and scored the equalizer for Mohun Bagan SG.

After the equalizer, Mohun Bagan SG seemed a bit more composed, but the level score didn’t last long as Kalighat SL regained their lead by scoring another brilliant goal. In the 71st minute, Kalighat SL launched a brilliant attack. Inside the box, the goal scorer Khanngam Horam expertly laid the ball back for substitute player Saikat Sarkar, who took a low-driven shot towards the post and scored the leading goal.

Mohun Bagan SG looked scattered today. After the leading goal, the game was in control of Kalighat SL. As time passed, Mohun Bagan SG attempted some counterattacks but couldn’t level the score.

Kalighat SL played their last CFL 2024 match today. They played with composure, but Mohun Bagan SG didn’t seem to be in their known rhythm today. Khanngam Horam, who scored a goal for his team Kalighat SL today, brilliantly assisted in the second goal and played a very proactive game with his striking performance.
