India vs Oman CAFA Nations Cup 2025 clash, India marked their debut appearance in the CAFA Nations Cup 2025 with a historic third-place finish, defeating higher-ranked Oman 3-2 on penalties after the match ended 1-1 at the Hisor Central Stadium in Tajikistan on Monday, September 8.

Udanta Singh Kumam struck in the 80th minute to cancel out Jameel Al Yahmadi’s opener for Oman in the 55th minute. With extra time producing no goals, the clash went to penalties, where India held their nerve to secure victory. Oman’s Ali Al Busaidi was also sent off early in extra time, tilting momentum towards the Blue Tigers.

The penalty shootout turned into a thriller. For India, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Rahul Bheke, and Jithin MS converted their spot-kicks. Anwar Ali’s effort was saved while Udanta missed his attempt. Oman managed only two successful penalties through Thani Al Rushaidi and Muhsen Al Ghassani.

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, India’s captain and goalkeeper, emerged as the hero by denying Jameel Al Yahmadi from the spot on the final kick, sealing India’s 3-2 triumph in the shootout.

India created their first real chance in the 16th minute when Anwar Ali’s header was denied by Oman goalkeeper Ibrahim Al Mukhaini. Just before half-time, Chhangte’s clever cut-back found Irfan Yadwad, but the striker’s shot went wide as the first half ended goalless.

Oman drew first blood early in the second half when Abdullah Fawaz set up Al Yahmadi for an easy tap-in at the far post. India responded by pushing forward and made decisive substitutions. Coach Khalid Jamil brought in Udanta Singh and Suresh Wangjam, and the move paid off.

In the 80th minute, Rahul Bheke’s long throw was flicked on by Danish Farooq, allowing Udanta to head home the equalizer. After a lengthy VAR check, the goal stood, bringing India back on level terms.

Extra Time and Red Card Drama

The India vs Oman CAFA Nations Cup 2025 clash saw extra time begin with Oman reduced to 10 men as Ali Al Busaidi received a red card in the 96th minute. Despite the numerical advantage, India could not capitalize, and the contest headed for penalties.
