Brilliant Resilience as Howrah Hooghly Warriors Survive Late Scare to Beat Burdwan Blasters 2–1

Kolkata, January 20: Howrah Hooghly Warriors continued their strong run in the Bengal Super League with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Burdwan Blasters at the Naihati Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. In a phase of the season where every point carries weight, the Warriors showed composure to secure full points despite a tense second half.

The Warriors made a positive start and took control early in the first half. Their breakthrough came in the 25th minute when Suman capitalised on a well-timed through ball. Entering the box from the right flank, he calmly placed his finish towards the second post, leaving the Burdwan goalkeeper with no chance.

Just ten minutes later, Howrah Hooghly doubled their advantage. Paulo Cezar made his presence count in the 35th minute, to giving his side a comfortable 2–0 lead going into the break. The Warriors looked in command, combining disciplined shape with sharp attacking play.

The second half, however, Burdwan Blasters returned with urgency pushing increasing the tempo of the game. Their persistence paid off in the 62nd minute when Chizoba pulled one back, setting up a nervy final phase, as the battle become intense.

Despite sustained pressure, the Howrah Hooghly defence stood firm, even after being reduced to ten men. Manotosh Chakladar was sent off for a reckless tackle, but the Warriors showed resilience and game management in the closing stages to hold on to their slender lead and secure all three points.

With this win, Howrah Hooghly Warriors move to 26 points, keeping themselves firmly in the title race. However, they remain just short of reclaiming the top spot, with JHR Royal City holding the top due to a superior goal difference. Meanwhile, Burdwan Blasters remain fifth on the table with 18 points from 13 matches, as they continue to fight for consistency in the closing stages of the league.

As the Bengal Super League approaches its decisive phase, the margins continue to tighten, and performances like this underline why Ramirez Barreto’s Howrah Hooghly Warriors remain serious contenders.
