East Bengal’s Brutal Dominance: 7–0 Derby Demolition Stuns Mohammedan SC

Kolkata, March 23: The 260th meeting between East Bengal FC and Mohammedan SC ended with a dominant 7–0 victory for East Bengal FC. The Kolkata Derby had all the thrills, including several key moments, as the Indian Super League clash ended in a commanding win for East Bengal FC with a bigger margin they secured ever in the league. In the match, there were three penalties, a red card, brilliant goals, and a night the Kolkata Derby won’t forget.

Within the opening 6 minutes, East Bengal took the lead. With a long-range shot, Anwar Ali broke the deadlock. In the 13th minute, they doubled their lead. Miguel went on an attack from the right side of the box, where Sajad Hussain stopped him with a foul and conceded a penalty. Ezzejjari stepped up and converted it.

But Mohammedan SC held them off a few times after that. In the 29th minute, Mohammedan SC got a chance when Miguel fouled Fardin in a promising position just outside the box. Fardin took it and unleashed a shot on target, but Gill was alert to catch it.

However, in the 35th minute, Mohammedan SC conceded another penalty. Joseph stopped Edmund from behind and, in doing so, received his second yellow card and was sent off, reducing the Black and White Brigade to ten men. Saul Crespo converted the penalty, to went into the break with a strong 3–0 lead.

East Bengal FC started the second half from where they left off in the first half. Within the 55th minute, East Bengal FC got their fourth goal with another penalty kick. When Miguel looked dangerous with a goal-bound move inside the box, Padam Chhetri stopped him with a foul, earning East Bengal their third penalty. Ezzejjari stepped up and converted it, completing his brace.

But in the 76th minute, East Bengal made the most of their corner. From Miguel’s corner, Vishnu scored the fifth goal of the match, as the ball dropped in a crowded area and he placed it into the net. Within three minutes, from another corner, Anwar Ali made it 6–0 for the Red and Golds.

But the match didn’t end there, as Nandha made his impact. When he came on in the 66th minute, the Red and Gold fans were excited and cheering. Showing his class, he made it even more worthwhile for them. In the final minute of added time, he moved forward with the ball from the right, cut past the Black and White shirts, and from inside the right side of the box sent the ball into the net at the far post, sealing the Kolkata Derby with an emphatic goal and a 7–0 scoreline for East Bengal.

Total of 34 shots, East Bengal made it 16 on target, while Mohammedan SC’s all-Indian squad, scattered and one man down, managed to attempt 4 shots with 3 on target, showing brief moments of fight despite the heavy pressure. With that bigger margin, East Bengal FC now have the dominant goal difference with 16 goals and moved to fourth with 11 points before the FIFA break.
