East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan: Kolkata Derby Set for Historic 125th IFA Shield Final Clash at Salt Lake Stadium

Kolkata, October 17: The stage is set for a grand finale as the 125th edition of the IFA Shield reaches its climax with a historic Kolkata Derby between East Bengal FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant on October 18 at 6 PM at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan. Two of India’s most successful and storied clubs will once again battle for glory in one of the oldest football tournaments in the world.

East Bengal, the most successful team in IFA Shield history with 29 titles, will be looking to extend their dominance. On the other hand, Mohun Bagan SG, who have 20 titles, will aim to bridge the gap and reclaim their old glory on this prestigious stage, both reaches the final 41 times.

Both sides have shown top form on their road to the final, East Bengal scored six goals and conceded none, while Mohun Bagan netted seven and conceded just once. Neither team lost a single group stage match, setting up a highly anticipated contest between two unbeaten sides.

This will be the third Kolkata Derby of the season, with East Bengal having won both previous encounters. For both clubs, it is also the first final appearance of the season, adding extra motivation and pressure to lift the silverware.

There are no major injury or suspension concerns for either camp, though Mohun Bagan head coach Jose Molina mentioned that Manvir Singh’s availability remains uncertain, as he continues to recover from his fitness issue.

They have a quality side, and we are focused on our game, and not an extra advantage.

Meanwhile, Molina emphasized the importance of fan support amid the ongoing protests, fans play a crucial part in their victories. It will be disappointing if they don’t come to the stadium, but the players will still give their best to win and make them proud, he stated.
