East Bengal FC Thrash Chennaiyin FC 4-0 to Keep Super Cup Hopes Alive | AIFF Super Cup 2025-26

Kolkata, October 28: East Bengal FC put on a commanding display in their Group A clash of the AIFF Super Cup 2025-26, beating Chennaiyin FC 4-0 to secure their first win of the tournament. With this victory, the Red and Gold Brigade reignited their campaign hopes while nearly ending Chennaiyin’s chances of progressing further.

The game opened with early intent from Chennaiyin. In the 2nd minute, Farukh Chaudhary made a solo run past three East Bengal players and forced a sharp near-post save from Prabhsukhan Gill, a moment that served as a warning for East Bengal. However, that was as far as Chennaiyin’s threat went in the first half.

In the mark of 19th minutes Clifford Miranda had to make a forced change as Jitehswor failed to continue due to injury, Kingsley stepped in.

East Bengal slowly grew into the game, and in the 35th minute, they broke the deadlock. After Bipin Singh was fouled on the left flank, Mahesh delivered a perfect free-kick that found Sibille, who attempt a header from close range to make it 1-0. Just four minutes later, Mahesh turned provider again, this time from the right, with a pinpoint cross that Bipin tucked into the net to double East Bengal’s lead.

Before Chennaiyin could regroup, the Red and Gold struck again in added time of the first half. Bipin, who was in sensational form, with a through ball curled a beautiful finessed strike into the corner to make it 3-0 before halftime, sealing his brace and leaving the Chennaiyin defence in tatters.

The second half saw Chennaiyin push forward in search of a response. They enjoyed a spell of possession around the 65th minute, with Mandar Rao Dessai testing Gill from distance. However, East Bengal’s defensive structure remained solid throughout.

In the 85th minute, substitute Hiroshi came close to a stunning debut goal but his long-range strike hitted the crossbar. Though he didn’t have to wait long, deep into stoppage time, Edmund was fouled inside the box by Mandar Rao, and gave East Bengal a penalty. Which Hiroshi stepped up and converted, sending Nawaz the wrong way to seal a 4-0 victory.

This result leaves all Indian side Chennaiyin FC’s hopes of qualification, having lost both of their opening group fixtures. For East Bengal, this emphatic win not only boosts their goal difference but also sets up a high-voltage Kolkata Derby in their final group match, one that could decide their fate in the Super Cup.
