CENTURY ACHIEVED: East Bengal FC hits a historic 100 matches in the ISL:
Mumbai City FC were held to a 0-0 draw by East Bengal FC at the Mumbai Football Arena in the Indian Super League 2024-25 tonight. This match marked East Bengal FC’s 100th appearance in the ISL. Despite dominating possession, the Islanders couldn’t break the deadlock. With that single point they remain in 6 place with 28 points from 18 matches, and East Bengal FC moved to the 10 with 18 points from 18.
Within kickoff Early in the 4th minute Mumbai City head coach Kratky had to made a forced changed as Karelis got injured. East Bengal FC started strong, in the 14th minute Dimitrios Diamantakos attracted defenders before passing to Naorem Mahesh Singh on the left. Mahesh skillfully crossed to Nandhakumar Sekar at the far post, but his shot from a tight angle was saved by Phurba Lachenpa at the bottom right corner.
In the 44th minute, Diamantakos had a great chance but missed from close range. David Lalhlansanga made a clever move on the right, passing to PV Vishnu, who quickly crossed to Diamantakos. However, he couldn’t managed precisely and headed the ball wide on the left. Within two minutes , Diamantakos pressed high to win the ball from Jon Toral outside the box. He stopped Mumbai City’s build-up and fired a powerful shot that hit the left post, and missed their best chance to score.
Four minutes into the second half, Vikram Partap Singh had a great chance to score. Mumbai City had an overload in attack, and Bipin Singh delivered a cross for Vikram. However, the attacker lost his balance and missed the goal from just a couple of yards out.
Jorge Ortiz, who came on for Thaer Krouma in the 63rd minute, created two big chances for Mumbai City FC in the 81st minute. First, he received a pass from Yoell van Nieff inside the box and aimed for goal, but Prabhsukhan Singh Gill made the save. Moments later, Lallianzuala Chhangte set up Ortiz outside the box for another shot, but Gill was again in the right position to deny him, helping East Bengal FC secure a point. Gill played an impactful game tonight for the Red And Gold Brigade, making three crucial saves, and clearing the ball once. His timely saves were key as Mumbai City pushed forward.
NEXT FIXTURES FOR BOTH: For the first time ISL fixtures is going to held in Shillong, as Mumbai City FC have their next match against Northeast United FC on 7 February. East Bengal FC will host Chennaiyin FC on February 8.
