East Bengal FC Defeat Punjab FC 3–1, Enter AIFF Super Cup 2025 Final

Kolkata, December 4: East Bengal FC sealed their place in the AIFF Super Cup 2025 final with a confident 3–1 victory over Punjab FC on Thursday evening at the Fatorda Stadium. In a match filled with momentum swings, sharp attacking moments, and a dramatic touchline incident, the Kolkata giant showed composure across both halves to book their ticket to the title clash.

East Bengal started brightly and were rewarded early. In the 12th minute, a corner taken by the Red & Golds was cleared only as far as Mohammed Rashid at the edge of the box. Rashid controlled the loose ball and struck a powerful long-range. Punjab keeper Shabir managed to get a touch but couldn’t keep it out as East Bengal took a 1–0 lead.

Punjab, however, responded well. They grew into the match, keeping the ball and applying pressure. Their reward came in the 33rd minute when Bipin Singh handled the ball inside the area, giving Punjab a penalty. Ramirez stepped up and calmly converted, making it 1–1.

Just before half-time, East Bengal struck again.

Deep into added time (45+3’), Miguel delivered a corner into the box, and Kevin Sibille sent it to home, restoring East Bengal’s lead at 2–1. The goal was followed by a moment of drama as head coach Oscar Bruzon was sent off for dissent after celebrating too close to the fourth officials. His second yellow meant he would not be on the touchline for the second half, and for the next clash.

Punjab returned from the break with strong intent, keeping possession and pushing East Bengal back, but it was the Kolkata side who created the better chances early on.

In the 56th minute, a slick move down the left involving Miguel and Mahesh opened space for Bipin, whose curling effort was tipped away. Ibusuki attacked the rebound at the far post but collided.

Punjab continued to search for an equaliser. Osuji tried to curl a cross into the box in the 62nd minute, but Gill collected comfortably. Six minutes later, substitute Suhail tested Gill with a low half-volley from the edge of the box. The ball rolled past the keeper, and Gill hurt himself while trying to make the save.

The decisive moment arrived in the 71st minute. Miguel slipped a short pass to Saul Crespo just outside the box, and the East Bengal captain unleashed a clean, powerful strike into the bottom corner to make it 3–1, effectively sealing the win.

Punjab continued to push, but East Bengal held their shape and saw out the remainder of the match with confidence.

With this result, East Bengal FC become the first team to reach the AIFF Super Cup 2025 final. The second finalist will be confirmed after the clash between FC Goa and Mumbai City FC later tonight. The final is scheduled for 7 December at the Fatorda Stadium.
