Kolkata, September 11: East Bengal FC strengthened their Super Six campaign with a commanding 3-0 win over United Kolkata SC, at East Bengal FC club ground, on Thursday. In a game where the Red and Gold Brigade showed their clinical edge despite their opponents creating early opportunities.
Both team began strongly and threatened on multiple occasions in the first half. United Kolkata created back to back two effective chances, in the 26th minute, Debayan Hazra’s long-range strike deflected just over the bar. Within three minute Samir Bayen moved into the box from a Jiten Murmu pass, but East Bengal FC goalkeeper Gourav made a stunning leg save to deny him in a one-on-one situation. Another golden chance for East Bengal FC fell to Vishnu in the 37th minute, but his close-range effort went wide, from one on one situation.
East Bengal FC broke the deadlock before the half-time. In the 45+1st minute, Aman CK’s curling cross from the left found Naseeb Rahman, who headed the ball home and give East Bengal FC a 1-0 lead going into the break.

The second half saw East Bengal FC take full control. Just three minutes after the restart, Vishnu won a free-kick outside of the box and stepped up to curl in a stunning direct effort, doubling the lead at 2-0. In the 53rd minute Vishnu almost added another when Aman CK sent a through, Vishnu entered the box, the keeper came out of his position, Vishnu placed the ball towards the empty net, however substitute Suvo Biswas made a goal line clearance.

East Bengal did not have to wait long for their third. In the 69th minute, Guite make it 3-0, effectively sealing the contest, also dedicated the goal to his late father. Edmund capitalised on a chance deep into stoppage time, but fired wide from inside the box. With this victory, East Bengal FC kept themselves firmly in the title race.

Despite the setback, United Kolkata SC still hold hopes of staying alive in the race. Wins in their next two fixtures will be crucial if they are to remain in contention.
In the day’s other Super Six fixture, Diamond Harbour FC sealed a 4-0 win over Suruchi Sangha, moving to the top of the table. That result sets up a mouth-watering clash on 14 September, when Diamond Harbour face East Bengal FC in a potential title decider.
