Diamond Harbour FC surged to the top of Group A with 20 points from eight matches after a commanding 4-1 victory over Kidderpore Sporting Club in Kalyani on Tuesday. Under the guidance of coach Kibu Vicuna, Diamond Harbour FC’s unbeaten run continued as they overwhelmed Suman Sarkar’s team.
The match saw a flurry of goals, with three scored before halftime. Diamond Harbour FC took the lead in the 7th minute through Bikramjit Singh’s header, but Bhawanipur quickly equalized four minutes later with a goal from Shelton Nickson. However, Rahul Kumar Paswan’s strike shortly after restored Diamond Harbour’s advantage, and they went into the break leading 2-1.
In the second half Kidderpore SC started playing high pressing football for their equaliser. But Aimar Adam, who stole the spotlight with two brilliant goals. His first came during regulation time with a spectacular lofted shot, which has changed the momentum of the match, he added another in extra time, sealing the 4-1 victory. The referee extended the match by seven minutes, during which Aimar scored his second goal in the 97th minute, putting the game beyond doubt.
With this win, Diamond Harbour FC has firmly established itself as a strong contender for the Kolkata League title, alongside East Bengal. The team’s performance was impressive, especially in the absence of star player Jobby Justin, showing no signs of missing their key forward.
