Kolkata, July 14: In the ongoing Calcutta Football League campaign, Diamond Harbour FC sealed a 1-0 victory over Aryan FC in the dying moments of the match.
Showing strong intent from the start, Diamond Harbour FC pressed high and kept the Aryan defence under constant pressure. Despite several promising chances, Aryan FC’s backline stood firm, with their goalkeeper pulling off some crucial saves to keep the scoreline goalless at the break.
In the 31st minute, Diamond Harbour FC earned a free-kick from a promising position. Just at the edge of the box, Benjamin received the ball and was about to enter the area when Prosenjit Paul stopped him illegally. Kuki took the free-kick, but his shot was deflected off the human wall. The rebound fell to Sawmtea, but his shot went straight to the goalkeeper.
In the 39th minute, Diamond Harbour FC got the first half’s most open chance. Kuki sent a long through ball to unmarked Subhajit Belal, who was positioned just outside the box, but his chipped effort went too high after a deflection off the Aryan goalkeeper.
In the second half, in the 51st minute, Aryan FC were reduced to ten men as Mangal Bag received his second yellow card of the match for a rough challenge on Subhajit Belal. Sawmtea took the resulting free-kick, but the ball went off target. In the 72nd minute, Aryan FC launched a goal-bound move, Raju Oraon made a run down the right flank and unleashed a long-range shot, but the Diamond Harbour FC goalkeeper comfortably collected it.
As time ticked towards the end, it seemed the match would end in a goalless draw, and Aryan FC were on course to secure their first point of the ongoing CFL. However, in the dying moments at 90+5th minute, substitute Akash Hembram broke the deadlock for Diamond Harbour FC . Another substitute, Aqib Nawab, sent a high cross from the left flank towards the far post, where Akash Hembram rose to head the ball into the net and secured all three points for Diamond Harbour FC.
With this late win, Diamond Harbour FC extended their winning streak to three matches in the Calcutta Football League, while Aryan FC remain winless and are yet to open their account on the points table.
