Today at the Naihati Bankimanjali Stadium, Mohammedan SC and Calcutta Customs played their second Super-Six match. Calcutta Customs snatched three points from Mohammedan SC after beating them 2-1.
Both teams started playing attacking football, but Calcutta Customs took the lead first. Due to a defensive lapse, Calcutta Customs found the back of the net. Inside the box, a Mohammedan SC defender passed the ball back to their keeper, but the experienced Robi Hansda came from behind and placed the ball into the net.
After scoring the goal, Calcutta Customs seemed more attacking and started creating pressure on the Mohammedan defense. In the 42nd minute, Ujjal Howladar, from the right inside the box, passed the ball back to Aman Rasheed, who took a shot, but it went wide. It was a golden chance for Customs to score their second goal.
But within three minutes, from a corner kick, Sariful Ali delivered a cross into the box, and Ujjal Howladar headed the ball into the net, scoring the second goal for Calcutta Customs. The first half was not in favor of Mohammedan SC, as they seemed very scattered. With a strong team effort and two goals, Biswajit Bhattacharya’s Calcutta Customs ended the first half.
In the second half, Mohammedan SC resumed the game with attacking intent, looking for goals to equalize the score. In the 71st minute, Mohammedan got their first goal when Suraj Rajwar scored the opening goal for his team.
Mohammedan SC took various shots in search of an equalizer, while Calcutta Customs went for some counter-attacks. Due to the rain, the ground was heavy, and as time went on, the players faced difficulties in playing a free-flowing game. In the 89th minute, Yash Chikro missed a great chance for Mohammedan SC. He made a run with the ball from the right, the far post was empty with no defenders, and the keeper was at the near post, but Yash shot directly at the keeper.
In the Calcutta Football League 2024 Super Six, with that win, Calcutta Customs advanced to fourth place with 27 points in the group, while Mohammedan SC stands at the bottom with 22 points.
