Kolkata, April 4: Mohun Bagan SG resumed their ISL 2026 campaign after the international break with a draw against Jamshedpur FC at the Red Miners’ home, the JRD Tata Sports Complex, on Saturday evening. Despite displaying a dominant game, they let it slip in the final moments of the match, when super-sub Ritwik Das himself a academy talent of the Mohun Bagan SAIL Football Academy in Durgapur, headed the ball into the net, denying the Mariners victory and preserving the Red Miners’ unbeaten record at home.
With a worthwhile curling shot, Liston Colaco gave Mohun Bagan the lead in the 15th minute of the match, and they continued to dominate. However, Jamshedpur almost found their equaliser in the 22nd minute when, from the left, Sanan delivered a curling cross, but before Messi Bouli could attempt, Vishal caught the dangerous threat.
In the 35th minute, the Mariners wasted a chance to score their second goal. From the left, Liston passed the ball to Robson inside the box, from where he attempted a curling ground shot towards the net, but Maclaren misplaced the chance. Within the span of four minutes, Alberto received the match’s first yellow card to stop Vincy on the right, outside the box, and gave Jamshedpur a freekick. Nikola took the free kick and delivered the ball into the box, but the chance went to waste for the Red Miners.
The second half was slow as it headed into the last quarter of the match, but the scoreline remained the same, with all of Mohun Bagan’s attempts coming out ineffective for them, and whenever Jamshedpur tried to build up for a goal, the ball reached Vishal’s safe hands.
In the 84th minute, Jamshedpur got their first shot on target, which came from Sanan, showing he almost earned his reward for his efforts in the match. From the left, he moved forward with the ball and unleashed a curling shot, but Vishal punched it away over the crossbar.
But Owen Coyle had other plans and proved it, he made a super substitution within two minutes, which proved costly for the Mariners. In the final minute of additional time 90+4, Messi Bouli sent a cross from the right towards the second post, where unmarked Ritwik Das headed the ball into the net, beating Vishal’s effort.
In the last two matches, with one loss and one draw, Mohun Bagan SG are on 14 points and sit third in the points table, while Jamshedpur FC, after the result, are second with the same points. As the Indian Super League goes on, the league is becoming more interesting with every match, as each point is crucial in the race for the trophy.
