ASOS Rainbow Stun Mohammedan SC 2-1 with Second-Half Comeback

Kolkata, July 25: In the ongoing Calcutta Football League, the Group B fixture between Mohammedan SC and ASOS Rainbow ended 2-1 in favor of Rainbow on Friday at the Naihati Bankimanjali Stadium. In a three-goal thriller second half, Mohammedan SC once again took the lead first but struggled to hold on and ended the match with no points.

The first half between Mohammedan SC and ASOS Rainbow lacked intensity, with both teams struggling to dominance. However, the half wasn’t short of big chances, for both.

In the 14th minute, Adison made a brilliant run inside the box from the left. The ASOS Rainbow goalkeeper rushed out and attempted to fist the ball but missed. Adison controlled it and took a shot at the empty goal, but send it over the crossbar, an absolute golden chance wasted for Mohammedan SC.

ASOS Rainbow had their moment in the 43rd minute when Amar Nath Baskey was brought down inside the box by Joseph while on a goal-bound move. The referee pointed to the spot, for a penalty kick. Rajon Barman stepped up for the penalty but his weak shot was easily saved by the Mohammedan keeper. Despite the missed opportunities on both ends, the first half ended goalless at 0-0.

Mohammedan SC made a perfect start to the second half, breaking the deadlock in the 47th minute. Sajal Bag delivered an inch-perfect cross from the right flank, and Shiba Mandi headed the ball into the net, giving Mohammedan a 1–0 lead.

They nearly doubled their advantage in the 73rd minute when Shiba Mandi set up Thangva Ragui outside the box. Ragui unleashed a powerful long-range shot, but the ASOS Rainbow goalkeeper made a save to keep his team in the game.

ASOS Rainbow started pushing harder and found a golden opportunity in the 74th minute, but Sanjoy Oraon missed a simple tap-in from close range after a perfect low cross inside the six-yard box.

However, they didn’t have to wait long. In the 78th minute, in between scramble inside the Mohammedan box, Souvik Ghoshal capitalised and fired a grounder ball into the net, scoring against his former side and bringing ASOS Rainbow level at 1–1.

Just five minutes later, in the 83rd minute, Souvik Ghoshal once again turned impactful, sending a brilliant through ball for Amar Nath Baskey. The forward made a clever run and chipped the ball into the empty net, as the Mohammedan keeper was out of his position. ASOS Rainbow turned the match around to take a 2–1 lead.

ASOS Rainbow turned the game on in the second half with a few impactful changes. Souvik Ghoshal added spark to ASOS Rainbow’s game, contributing to the goals. Mohammedan SC remain 12th in the Group B points table, having played 5 matches and earned just 1 point. Meanwhile, ASOS Rainbow moved up to 7th place with 11 points from 6 matches.
