East Bengal FC Dominate Nita FA 5-1 to Strengthen IWL Title Charge

East Bengal FC secured a commanding 5-1 victory over Nita FA at the Kalyani Stadium on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, maintaining their four-point lead at the top of the Indian Women’s League (IWL) 2024-25 table. The match was evenly poised at halftime, tied at 1-1, before East Bengal surged ahead in the second half.

Acheampong Leads the Charge

East Bengal FC’s in-form forward, Elshaddai Acheampong, opened the scoring in the ninth minute. She connected with a cross from Karthika Angamuthu, initially heading the ball towards goal. Though the first attempt was blocked, she reacted swiftly and volleyed the rebound into the net to give her side the lead.

Nita FA responded in the 37th minute when Rahama Jafaru took advantage of a fortunate deflection. East Bengal FC’s Soumya Guguloth attempted to clear the danger, but the ball ricocheted directly to Jafaru, who calmly slotted it past the goalkeeper to restore parity before halftime.

Second-Half Surge Seals East Bengal’s Win

Just nine minutes after the restart, East Bengal FC regained the lead through Acheampong, who confidently converted a penalty with a right-footed strike into the top right corner.

In the 65th minute, Malti Kumari’s attempt to intercept a pass inadvertently set up Maurine Achieng, who made no mistake from close range to extend East Bengal’s lead.

Six minutes later, Guguloth added another to the tally, registering her sixth goal of the season with a precise right-footed finish.
