CHAMPIONS’ NIGHT! MOHUN BAGAN SG SIGNS OFF THEIR LEAGUE CAMPAIGN WITH A SOLID 2-0 VICTORY, LIFTING THE SHEILD IN FRONT OF A SEA OF GREEN AND MAROON!
Kolkata, March 8: The successful defending League Shield champions wrapped up their last ongoing Indian Super league fixture in style, defeating FC Goa 2-0 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in front of 61,591 fans tonight, and lift the League sheild after the last whistle.
For the match, Jose Molina made a few changes to the squad, bringing in Dheeraj Singh and Ashique Kuruniyan to the starting XI, while resting captain Subhasish Bose. In the ISL 2024-25 season, Mohun Bagan SG lost only two games and finished their campaign with a historic points total of 56.
FC Goa dominated ball possession throughout the match, but the Mariners dominated the scoreboard. Both teams showed attacking intent in the first half while maintaining strong defensive awareness. In the 45+2nd minute, Manvir found the net, but the goal was disallowed due to a handball. Before passing the ball, Petratos made contact with the ball using his hand.
In the 63rd minute, due to a communication lapse, FC Goa conceded an own goal. Tom Aldred sent a high ball, which Boris Singh received and attempted a back pass to his keeper Hrithik Tiwari, but the ball went into the net, giving Mohun Bagan SG a 1-0 lead.

In the additional time at 90+1st minute, Goa launched an effective goal-bound move. Dejan Drazic sent a ball to Guarrotxena, who attempted a shot from the center of the box, but it was blocked.
In the 90+4th minute, Stewart doubled the lead for the league champions. He made a run in a one-on-one situation with the keeper and unleashed a long on-target shot into the net to seal the score and secure three more points in their bag. The Gaurs remained at 48 points, holding their grip on the second spot.

Before the match, the league shield was handed over to the league champions. In ISL history, Mohun Bagan SG became the first team to successfully defend the league shield, additionally achieving a historic points total.
