East Bengal FC secured their fourth win of the ongoing ISL by defeating Jamshedpur FC 1-0 on December 21 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan. After making a comeback from injury, Diamantakos’ one strike earned three more points for the Red and Gold Brigade. In front of 16,564 fans, East Bengal FC showcased a dominant performance, to earned the victory.
The away side kicked off the match. With an all-out attacking display, East Bengal FC dominated the first half. Within a few minutes of the match, Vishnu got an easy chance from the left side of the eighteen-yard box but failed to find the back of the net.
In the 10th minute, from just outside the box in a one-on-one situation, Siverio had a chance but took an off-target shot. It was one of Jamshedpur FC’s most promising opportunities in the first half. In the 14th minute, East Bengal head coach Oscar was forced to make a substitution as Rakip suffered a cramp, with Jeakson coming on to replace him.
In the 38th minute, Anwar Ali sent an aerial ball to Cleiton Silva on the right side. Silva passed the ball to Nanda Kumar inside the box, who found himself in a one-on-one situation. However, Nanda’s shot was easy to gripped for Albino Gomes.
In the 41st minute, Diamantakos was fouled by Eze, resulting in a free kick from a promising position on the outside of the box. Cleiton Silva took the free kick and unleashed a curling shot toward the near post, but Albino Gomes made the save. East Bengal FC displayed dominance with 52% ball possession, while Jamshedpur FC failed to register a single shot on target, in the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, during the 60th minute, Diamantakos scored the only goal of the match. From the right, Cleiton passed the ball to Nanda inside the box, who then delivered it to Diamantakos at the far post. Diamantakos precisely placed the ball into the net, to changed the score into lead of East Bengal FC 1-0.
Within eight minutes, Vishnu created a great chance. From the left, he cut past the Red Miners’ defenders, entered the box, and took a shot that hit the crossbar. East Bengal FC mirrored the same style of play in the second half.
In the extended seven minutes of added time, the away side showed urgency to equalize the score. In the 90+4th minute, following a corner kick, Jamshedpur FC unleashed back-to-back shots. From the resulting scramble inside the box, Nikhil Barla received the ball and attempted a close-range shot, but it went wide. Within two minutes, Siverio tried a half-volley shot from inside the box, but it also went wide.
However, with the final whistle of the match, East Bengal FC secured their fourth win of the ongoing Indian Super League and moved to 10th position in the group table, with 13 points from 12 matches, while Jamshedpur FC remained in 7th place, with 18 points from 11 matches.
