East Bengal respond to continental disappointment with a commanding win as Ramírez, Lalrindika and Bipin Singh secure victory.
East Bengal FC made a strong statement at the start of their Indian Super League campaign, registering a commanding 4-0 victory over Churchill Brothers. This win comes after a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat against Iraqi side Al-Shorta SC in the AFC Champions League Two, where East Bengal surrendered their half-time lead despite David Lalhlansanga’s brace. Against Churchill Brothers, however, the Red and Gold Brigade showed greater composure in front of goal, with Dani Ramírez and Edmund Lalrindika putting them two goals ahead in the first half before Bipin Singh’s late brace sealed an emphatic victory.
East Bengal Take Commanding 2-0 Lead Against Churchill Brothers at Half-Time
East Bengal FC head into the half-time break with a commanding 2-0 lead against Churchill Brothers in their Indian Super League clash at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa.
The Red and Gold Brigade made a dream start to the contest, with Dani Ramírez opening the scoring in just the second minute. Winning a free-kick in a dangerous position, the Spanish forward produced a superb left-footed strike into the top-left corner, giving Red & Gold an early advantage.
Churchill Brothers attempted to respond, with John Okoli coming agonisingly close to an equaliser in the 16th minute, only to see his right-footed effort strike the post. Sebastián Gutiérrez also tested the East Bengal defence, but his attempt was blocked.
Red & Gold continued to create opportunities, with David Lalhlansanga looking dangerous in attack. Their persistence paid off just before half-time. In the 45th minute, David Lalhlansanga set up Edmund Lalrindika, who finished brilliantly with a right-footed effort into the top centre of the goal to double Red & Gold’s advantage.
The Red and Gold Brigade stunned the Goan side by leaving no room to organise in the first half, showing fine rhythm and gameplay after the sad loss to Al Shorta in the AFC Champions League 2.
Churchill Brothers upraised their defence in the second half
Churchill Brothers showed greater resistance after the restart, working to restrict East Bengal’s attacking opportunities. Although the visitors continued to threaten, the home side managed to keep the score unchanged for much of the second half.
Ramírez struck the post in the 52nd minute, while Bipin Singh and other East Bengal attackers continued to look for openings. Churchill Brothers also attempted to create chances of their own, with Prabhsukhan Gill called into action to deny efforts from distance.
Despite East Bengal’s pressure, Churchill Brothers kept the contest at 2-0 until the closing stages, making the final scoreline a less straightforward reflection of the second-half battle.
Bipin Singh’s Late Double Seals the Win
East Bengal finally extended their lead in the 85th minute when Bipin Singh found the top-left corner with a left-footed strike from outside the box. Aké Loba provided the assist, and the goal gave East Bengal crucial breathing room late in the match.
Bipin struck again in the 90th minute, finishing from close range after being set up by Vishnu Puthiya. His late brace took East Bengal’s tally to four and put the result beyond doubt.
Churchill Brothers managed a late attempt through Gaurav Bora, but Gill made the save to preserve his clean sheet. East Bengal left Goa with all three points, while Bipin’s two late goals capped a convincing opening-day result.
