Mohun Bagan SG Crush CISF Protectors 6-0 to Complete Perfect Durand Cup Group Stage

Kolkata, August 10: Mohun Bagan SG completed their group-stage fixtures in the ongoing Durand Cup with three wins from three. Beating CISF Protectors 6–0 on Monday at Kishore Bharati Krirangan, Mohun Bagan SG secured nine points, scored 15 goals and kept three clean sheets. With Sahal Samad making a four-goal contribution, Mohun Bagan SG completed the group stage and moved into the knockout stages.

Within the 17th minute of the match, Mohun Bagan SG took the lead, with Sahal scoring from close range. In the next minute, Sahal completed his and Mohun Bagan SG’s brace. From Manvir’s through pass, Drazic passed the ball from the right for Sahal, who placed the ball into the net. In the 23rd minute, Manvir Singh changed the score to 3–0 for Mohun Bagan SG. And Before half-time Sahal arrived with his hat-trick. In the 37th minute, he completed his hat-trick to make it 4–0 as Mohun Bagan SG continued their dominance.

Mohun Bagan started the second half with the same attacking intent, but Manvir missed three chances within a 10-minute period before the hour mark. Despite the misses, the Mariners continued to dominate possession and kept creating opportunities around the CISF Protectors box.

Maclaren coming on to the ground within eight minutes found the net. In the 68th minute, Sahal played a through ball for Maclaren, who received it inside the box from the left and calmly placed the ball into the net to make it 5–0.

Five minutes later, Mariners added another. Abhishek made a run into the box from the left side and sent the ball into the net to make it 6–0. CISF Protectors had a chance from a free-kick in the 88th minute after Kiyan made a foul on Bebeto just outside the box. Gaurab Das took the free-kick and sent it on target, but the keeper Zahid made the save.

In the second half, Manvir and Liston missed several goalbound chances, which could have helped Mohun Bagan SG extend their lead by an even bigger margin. However, the Mariners saw out the remaining minutes comfortably to complete a dominant 6–0 victory and finish the Durand Cup group stage with three wins from three.

On the day, the new and much-talked-about signing Miguel Figueira was on the bench but missed out on his debut as Anirudh Thapa was shown yellow card and the coach had to make a change. Alberto Rodriguez also felt some discomfort, which forced another change at half-time. As a result, Miguel’s wait for his Mohun Bagan debut continued.

Mohun Bagan SG may have missed several chances to make the scoreline even bigger, but their overall performance remained dominant throughout the match. From the opening minutes, the Mariners controlled the game, created chances and kept CISF Protectors under constant pressure. The 6–0 victory was another convincing display from Mariners, who continued their winning run and completed the group stage with three wins from three.
