133rd Durand Cup Set to Kick Off Across Four Cities in India with 24 Teams Competing

The 133rd edition of the Durand Cup will be played across four cities in India, in between twenty-four teams, from 27th July to 30th August. The groups are officially announced today in the time of Durand Cup trophy unveiling by the president of India Mrs. Draupadi Murmu.

Boasting a rich history since its inception in 1888, it held annually in India, Durand Cup’s first edition which was held in 1888 in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, it is Asia’s first oldest existing club football tournament and World’s fifth oldest National football competition. After post independence it is jointly organized and hosted by the Indian Army and All India Football Federation. In the first edition of the Durand, Royal Scots Fusiliers beat the Highland Light Infantry by 2–1 in the final and won the first Durand Cup. After post independence, Hyderabad City Police were the first champions of the Durand Cup beating Mohun Bagan 1-0 in the final.

133rd edition of the Durand will be played across four cities, Kolkata, Jamshedpur, Kokrajhar, and Shillong. Twenty-four teams are divided in to six groups. The teams are from, Indian top tiers league, from the armed forces and some invites team. Previous edition’s champion Mohunbagan SG and Runners up Eastbengal FC are in the same group.

GROUP D ( Jamshedpur)

  • Indian Army FT
  • Bangladesh Army FT

GROUP E (Kokrajhar)

  • NorthEast United FC
  • Bodoland FC
  • BFS FT

GROUP F (Shillong)

  • Hyderabad FC
  • Shillong Lajong FC
  • Tribhuvan Army FC

Now India is waiting for the tournament which is a symbol of heritage and prestige, with its storied legacy and vibrant atmosphere, the Durand Cup the base of Indian football.
